12 children were wounded today in a mortar shell launched by the Iran-aligned Houthi militia targeting a residential area in the besieged city of Taiz.
According to local sources, the 12 children, aged between 5 to 13, were playing when a mortar shell landed in their neighborhood.
5 of the children sustained serious injuries due to shrapnel and were moved to the ICU in Al Rawdah Hospital, while the other seven had minor injuries, a medical source told Republican Yemen on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the media.

This comes amid attempts by the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, to extend the shaky truce that expires on August 2 for six months.
Taiz, Yemen’s third-largest city, is home to 4 million residents. The Houthi rebels have been besieging the city for seven years and still refuse to open roads to the city as part of the truce agreement that came into effect on April 2.
