5 civilians, including a child and a woman, were killed in three explosions of landmines laid by the Iran-backed Houthi militia south the port city of Hodeidah, Xinhua reported, citing a military official.

“The blasts were caused by landmines laid previously by the Houthis during the past years,” Xinhua quoted the military official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

According to the official, the first blast took place south the port city of Hodeidah, killing three people, including a child, who were riding on a motorcycle when the landmine went off.

In Hali district, a woman was also killed in an explosion of an explosive device laid by the Houthi rebels while a man was killed and his was seriously injured when a landmine went off as they were going back to their residential area in Hays district.

Reports indicate that the Houthi militia has planted roughly two million landmines in large swaths of war-torn Yemen. As a result of such mines, tens of thousands of civilians have been killed, maimed or wounded.
