Yemen records highest coronavirus deaths in a month

As many as 27 deaths from coronavirus were recorded today in areas under the control of Yemen’s internationally recognized government, the highest figure to be recorded in a month.

The Aden-based Supreme National Emergency Committee for Covid-19 said it recorded 67 new coronavirus infections and 27 deaths on Friday, bringing the total of confirmed cases of the pandemic to 8018, including 1513 deaths and 4937 recovered cases.

Meanwhile, the Iran-backed Houthi rebels keep suppressing information and data about the virus in areas under their control.

Last month, the Associated Press said in a report that Houthi authorities were approaching the pandemic with such outright denial that it threatens to further endanger the already vulnerable population.

This comes amid fears of a third wave of the novel coronavirus in the war-torn country which, according to the UN, is already facing the worst humanitarian crisis in modern history.
