U.S. Ambassador to Yemen Christopher Henzel indicated that the continuous “flow of weapons” from Iran to its proxy militia in Yemen, Houthi rebels, is the reason that prolongs the war and the suffering of Yemenis.
“The recent port of call was in Iran,” Henzel said in a statement following the seizure of an arms shipment in the Arabian Sea by the U.S. Navy.
“Similar previous interdicted shipments were bound for the Houthis,” Henzel said. “This continuing flow of weapons to the Houthis prolongs the suffering of Yemen’s people, and contributes to wider regional conflict.”
On Sunday, the U.S. Navy announced it had seized a sailing ship in the Arabian Sea loaded with anti-tank guided missiles, thousands of assault rifles and hundreds of machine guns, sniper rifles, and rocket-propelled grenade launchers. The ship was believed to be heading to Houthis coming from Iran.
