Two children were killed on Wednesday in indiscriminate shelling on residential areas west of the six-year besieged city of Taiz, local sources said.
Yemen Talk, a local news site, reported that two little girls named Mawaheb Ali Hassan and Farah Ahmed Ali were killed in Al-Quhaifa sub-district of Maqbana district due to shelling launched by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
Since they were liberated by government forces several weeks ago, many villages and sub-districts in Maqbana district have been under constant bombardment by the Houthis, according to locals.
In March, government forces launched a wide-scale offensive in rural areas west of Taiz to partially lift a strangling siege that has been imposed by Houthis since 2015.
Military officials say large areas have been liberated as the fighting claimed hundreds of fighters’ lives on both sides.
