Coronavirus vaccination campaign launched in Yemen

Public Health and Population Ministry in the internationally recognized government began a coronavirus vaccination campaign Tuesday in Aden, Yemen’s interim capital.
According to sources familiar with the matter, ministers of Health and Civil Services as well as UNICEF Representative Philippe Duamelle were the first to receive shots in Aden.
“So, now the vaccines are available in Yemen. The campaign is rolling to protect people. So, it is important now people come forward,” Duamelle.said.
The sources said vaccination campaign will be implemented at several stages and will cover Aden and other 13 provinces.
Ishraq al-Sebaei, an official on the government´s emergency coronavirus committee said 10.000 doses would be sent to the rebel-held capital, Sana’a through the UN health agency.
The campaign comes three weeks after Yemen received its first 360,000-dose shipment of the AstraZeneca vaccine from the United Nations-backed COVAX initiative.
In March, Yemen was hit by a second wave of the novel coronavirus, exacerbating the already worst humanitarian crisis in war-torn Yemen.
