Taiz: Govt official dies of COVID-19, others in critical condition

Republican Yemen
Taiz Sub-governor Dr. Abdulhakim Awn died on Tuesday of coronavirus while other sub-governors are in critical condition, medical sources said.
According to sources familiar with the matter, top-ranked sub-governor in Taiz, Dr. Abdulqawi al-Mekhlafi has been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since last week after being infected with the virus.
The sources added that Director of the Intelligence Security in the governorate, Abdulwahed Sarhan, has been admitted to Al Thawra Hospital as his health condition worsened.
Taiz, which has been besieged for the past six years by the Iran-backed Houthis, is witnessing an alarming outbreak of coronavirus pandemic amid a growing number of causalities due to lack of Oxygen supplies in hospitals.
On Monday, Aden-based Supreme National Emergency Committee for Covid-19 recorded 83 new infections in government-controlled provinces, 45 of which reported in Taiz, bringing the total to 4881 infections.
Reports indicate that the real number of infections is much higher than officially reported figures.
