Elderly man killed in mine explosion

An elderly man was killed in an explosion of a landmine in the southeast of the nearly six-year besieged city of Taiz, Yemeni Landmine Records (YLR) reported on Saturday.

According to YLR, an observatory for documenting mines and unexploded ordnance victims in Yemen, Mohammad Asaad Al-Ghubeir was killed when a landmine planted by the Iran-aligned Houthi rebels went off while he was grazing his sheep in Haifan district, southeast of Taiz.

The Houthi rebels, an armed group that is seen to be Iran’s proxy in Yemen, have reportedly laid over one million mines in large swaths of the country.

Reports indicate that those mines have killed, maimed, or wounded thousands of unsuspecting civilians in war-torn Yemen
