A circulated video on social networking sites shows schoolgirls sing along: “May You Be Safe,” Yemen.” in Al-Shaida Nema School in the besieged city of Taiz, Yemen’s third-largest city.
The song, which is a national song that shows pride in belonging to the country, was sung during the school broadcast amid a difficult time war-torn Yemen is going through.
Aurora Humanitarian 2019 winning prize Huda Alsarari, who is a lawyer and human rights activist, commented on the video saying she could not get enough of watching the video, noting that “it brings hope for the future” of Yemen.
Taiz city, home to over three million people, has been besieged by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels since 2015 where civilians fall victim to shelling and sniping on a daily basis.
Yesterday, at least two kids, including an eight-month infant, were killed and another dozen wounded in indiscriminate shelling launched by Houthi insurgents that targeted Osaifra neighborhood, north of the city.
