Scores of Yemeni emigrants organized a sit-in on Thursday in Berlin demanding the international community to put more pressure on Houthis to resolve the crisis of Safer oil tanker.

In a sit-in that was organized by the German-Yemeni Forum for Rights and Freedoms in front of the headquarters of the German Foreign Ministery, protesters demanded the government of Germany and the EU to take immediate action and practice more pressure on Houthi rebels who undermine efforts to get access to the stranded oil tanker off the coast of Yemen.

In mid-June, Yemen’s internationally recognized government called on the UN to put more pressure on Houthi rebels to allow for maintenance work on Safer tanker, warning of an increased risk of a huge environmental disaster as the FSO Safer keeps decaying.

Experts repeatedly sounding alarms, warning of a major but preventable catastrophe. Yet the warnings were ignored.
