Almost a thousand mines and explosive devices planted by the Iran-aligned Houthi insurgents were safely detonated west the five-year-besieged city of Taiz, Yemen’s third largest city, the Saudi project for mine clearance said.
As many as 997 mines, explosive devices, and ordnance were destructed in Al Kadaha district of the port town of Mokha, Director-General of the Saudi project Ousama Algosaib said.
The explosives include 251 landmines, 82 antipersonnel mines, 210 ordnance 53 improvised explosive devices, and 9 grenades.
He added that the mine-destroying operation was the 21st operation to be conducted on the west coast, bringing the total number of operations to 56 across Yemen.
According to Masam, over 172000 mines and more than 10.648.279 square meters have been cleared in 8 liberated governates, since mid-2018, when the project was initiated.
