Masam clears 852 Houthi-laid landmines and explosive devices during 1st week of June

Masam, the Saudi mine action program for mine clearance in Yemen, has extracted 852 Houthi-laid landmines and explosive devices across Yemen during the first week of June.

So far, demining teams of Masam have removed 168,155 mines in large swaths of the country since the beginning of its mission in May 2018.

The Iran-backed Houthi rebels have planted over a million landmines, claiming thousands of lives and maiming or wounding a lot more.

In April 2019, Human Rights Watch said Houthi-laid mines had killed hundreds of civilians, obstructed their movement and prevented lifeline humanitarian aid from reaching people.
