The Supreme National Emergency Committee for COVID19 declared on Monday the interim capital of Aden an “infested” city as infections, including coronavirus and malaria, overwhelm the city.
The announcement came following a meeting headed by Yemen’s Prime Minister, state-run Saba news reported.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said there is a rapid transmission of the pandemic in Yemen and that the virus has been spreading unseen.
According to Reuters, WHO has suspended staff activities in Houthi-controlled areas, for the rebels are not being transparent about COVID19 suspected cases.
So far, 56 coronavirus cases have been recorded, with 8 deaths and one recovered patient. The official figures, however, are believed to be much lower than the real infected cases as there are not enough tests to check a huge number of suspected cases.
