A mine disposal expert was killed while trying to dismantle a Houthi-laid landmine in Moaza’ district, west of Taiz city.

Director-General of Masam, the Saudi project for mine clearance in Yemen, Ousama Algosaibi said Col. Ali Saeed al-Keldi was killed on Monday while on duty in an area called Al Hamili due to an explosion of an anti-personnel mine.

Last year, six of Masam deminers were killed in a blast in a warehouse that was designed to store defused mines and other explosions in the port city of Mocha.

Since the start of its mission in mid-2018, the Saudi project has cleared an estimated 160000 mines and explosives in large swaths of the country, where the Iran-backed rebels have planted about a million unmarked mines.
