Fighting Escalates, Gov Forces Retake Military Camp North Al Jawf
Republican Yemen
Despite a ceasefire aimed at unifying efforts to contain coronavirus, escalating fighting between the Iran-backed Houthis and government forces has not calmed northeast of Yemen.
Field sources said fierce battles have been taking place north of Al Jawf province where government forces recaptured al-Khanjar military camp on Wednesday.
Last Wednesday, a bilateral ceasefire was announced by the Saudi-led coalition and welcomed by the internationally recognized government of Yemen.
The truce did not hold long as Houthi rebels targeted Marib province a few minutes right after the ceasefire announcement, launching fierce attacks against government forces in Marib, Al Jawf, and Taiz.
