YCMHRV: 170 Detainees Died of Torture in Houthi-run Prisons

The Yemeni Coalition for Monitoring Human Rights Violations (YCMHRV) said that it monitored as many as 455 cases of torture committed in rebel-run incarcerations since Houthi militia stormed the capital Sana’a in September 2018.

In a seminar held in partnership with the World Community Federation during the 42nd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, YCMHRV said 381 cases were monitored in Sana’a and 47 in Ibb province.

YCMHRV also said about 170 people died of torture in Houthi-run prisons, including 9 children and two women.

The Iran-backed rebels hold thousands of detainees in their prisons, most of whom are journalists, activists, and political opponents.
