September 8 (Republican Yemen) ___ Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates issued on Sunday a joint statement calling to halt fighting between forces loyal to the internationally recognized government and militias of Southern Transitional Council (STC) in south Yemen.
The joint statement also urged the government of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi and the STC to prepare for “constructive” talks in Saudi Arabia.
According to AP, the statement came as Yemeni officials say Hadi’s government is amassing troops to retake a key southern city from the separatists.
The two governments reaffirmed, in their joint statement, their continued support for the Legitimate Government of Yemen in its efforts to restore state and defeat the Houthi militia.
Troops loyal to the legitimate government and UAE-backed STC militias have been fighting to grab control of the south since August.
Tension between Yemen’s internationally recognized government and UAE reached its peak when the latter targeted government’s troops, killing and wounding about 300 people.
