Iran-backed Houthi militia has abducted International Bank of Yemen’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ahmed Thabet al-Absi and took him to an unknown destination.

His family has approached Houthi-leading figures and others of the General People’s Congress (GPC) to obtain information of the whereabouts of him but all to no avail, a relative of al-Absi’s spoke on condition of anonymity.

“Houthis abducted him for refusing to give in to the pressures they put to compel the bank to pay for them in the name of war effort,” he said.

This comes amid escalating acts the rebels perform in order to oblige banks, companies, and investors to make a long-term financial commitment to the so-called “war effort.”
